The Naked Cowboy Walked in Express’s Runway Show in Times Square This Weekend

Express’s bid to break the current world record for most people modelling on a catwalk proved successful, despite the 100-degree weather this weekend. A total of 1,243 people walked Express’s runway in Times Square on Saturday, including theNaked Cowboy, police officers, tourists, and a few masochistic locals. The previous record of 521, set last year by Galeries Lafayette in Paris, was broken just before noon by New Yorker Lauren Griffin, according to Express’s press release.

How Express Plans to Break the Guinness World Record for Most People to Ever Model on a Catwalk

This Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Express will attempt to set a new Guinness world record for the largest number of people modeling on a catwalk. The current record is held by Galeries Lafayette, a French department store that staged a fashion show with 521 participants in September 2010. According to their press release, Express will set up their catwalk in the middle of Times Square, where it’ll be open all day for members of the public to strut down while getting their pictures taken. Participants will receive a free photo of themselves (with STRONG encouragement to upload it onto “their favorite social media site,”) as well as an Express T-shirt printed with the words “I Was a Model for a Minute.”

Out of all the experiences in life, one that a majority of people would dread is the experience of losing someone dear to them. I’ve been unfortunate to experience this quite a few times in my life. As my calendar alarm goes off indicating the anniversary of the death of someone I was close to, it automatically becomes an interestingly different yet typical day. That might not make sense but it somehow does.

Today is one of those days. Having spent most of my time the past few months just living and enjoying my life, it becomes surreal when I look at my phone and see that today’s the day a dear friend passed exactly a year ago. It’s funny because I had, for the first few hours of my waking day, thought today was just going to be a typical day at work. When I realized at around my lunch break time what day it was today, a weird feeling passed by me.

In the past, this day would have bothered me a lot and I’d probably just sit in bed all day in deep thoughts of nothing, but after having at least 6 of these days throughout the year this eerie feeling of sadness has slowly disappeared. It has definitely changed me each time one of these days passes me by… made me stronger, more appreciative, and ironically happier in a way.

I hope that for those who are going through a hard time having exerienced this particular hardship, they will not only focus on the mourning and sadness but learn to channel the entire experience to help themselves grow and eventually move on.

The June issue of British Vogue includes a story about the influx of Asian models in the high-end fashion industry, titled “The New Guard,” that’s quite similar to a piece in December’s American Vogue on the same subject. In any case, there’s an embarrassing gaffe in British Vogue’s article: A photograph of Chinese model Liu Wen walking in Derek Lam’s spring show (pictured) is misidentified as a different Chinese model, Du Juan, who didn’t even walk in the show.
